World Wide Knit in Public Day

World Wide Knit in Public Day is on Saturday, June 9th 2018.

"Better living through stitching together".

World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIPDAY) is unique, in that it’s the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers according to the event website.

Be part of a very colourful, passionated and cozy community, host a KIP in your local community and join a global movement.

In 2017 there were 1125 Knit-In-Public events in 54 different countries.

If you want to run a knitting in public event advises the webite, you need to talk to (for example) cafe or shop owners

"To figure out the best location/time/possible discounts/moving tables for the event (when talking to them, give them a number estimate for people, unless you already know - around 10 is a good starting number.) Once you have the owner/manager's permission, put it in writing, and take the paper with you on the event day in case they're not there."

If you're using a public place, you need to check with the relevant authorities first, advises the website.

Plenty of publicity!

Don't forget to tell as many people as possible about your event - posters, social media and word of mouth can all be combined in a good campaign.

And find out what your knitters will need to bring with them, such as chairs, food and water.

Have fun!
